On Vijayadashami 1950, M. S. Golwalkar gave the annual address at the gathering in Nagpur, where the chief guest was Nilkanth Das. This page summarises what was reported about it.
The day
- Date: 20 October 1950 — the calendar date of Vijayadashami; our sources do not record the exact day of the gathering
- Place: Nagpur
- Address by: M. S. Golwalkar
- Chief guest: Nilkanth Das
What the address covered
Only Golwalkar's Shastrapujan (eve-of-Dussehra) address is recorded in Shri Guruji Samagra. In it he asked swayamsevaks to stay true to the Sangh's principles and complained that Hindus had become embarrassed to call themselves Hindu. He argued that constitutional and legal changes were breaking up the Hindu joint family. He dismissed critics who called the RSS 'reactionary' and said the Sangh hates no one. He said Congressmen and socialists were also brethren and part of society. Organiser lists Nilkanth Das as that year's guest.
Context
Speech came during the debate over reform of Hindu personal law (inferred context; the summary refers only to the Constitution).
How sure is this?
This account rests mainly on one source, listed below; details may be incomplete. For these years the main source is the organisation's own compilation of Golwalkar's talks (Shri Guruji Samagra), which prints edited summaries rather than verbatim transcripts.
