On Vijayadashami 1949, M. S. Golwalkar gave the annual address at the gathering in Nagpur. This page summarises what was reported about it.
The day
- Date: 1 October 1949 — the calendar date of Vijayadashami; our sources do not record the exact day of the gathering
- Place: Nagpur
- Address by: M. S. Golwalkar
What the address covered
This was the first Vijayadashami after the ban was lifted in July 1949. According to the summary in Shri Guruji Samagra, Golwalkar said the Sangh was entering its 25th year. He argued that a divided society invites aggressors and that India's unity rests on a shared cultural current older than differences of language, sect and region. He held up Rama's personal conduct as the basis of 'Ramrajya'. He said this work belonged to no single party and hoped the Sangh would one day merge so fully with society that it would need no separate name.
Context
First utsav after the 1948-49 ban. The compilation also has a separate Shastrapujan (eve) address for that year.
How sure is this?
This account rests mainly on one source, listed below; details may be incomplete. For these years the main source is the organisation's own compilation of Golwalkar's talks (Shri Guruji Samagra), which prints edited summaries rather than verbatim transcripts.
