What Lakshmi Mantras means
Lakshmi's mantras ask for prosperity in its full sense — wealth, health, harmony and grace. "Om Shrim Mahalakshmyai Namah" uses "shrim", her seed sound, the sound of auspiciousness; the longer "Kamale kamalalaye" mantra calls her as the lotus-dweller and adds the seed "hrim".
The first verse of the Rigvedic Shri Suktam asks Agni to bring the golden Lakshmi into the home; "Namastestu Mahamaye" from the Mahalakshmi Ashtakam praises her holding Vishnu's conch, discus and mace; and "Karagre vasate" is the first prayer of the day, said looking at one's palms on waking.
