What Shani Mantra means
Shani is the planet Saturn among the Navagraha, the son of Surya and Chhaya, and the lord of karma and justice. His name Shanaishchara means "the slow-moving one". He is feared for the trials of Sade Sati and Shani dhaiya, but he is above all a just teacher who rewards patience, honest work and humility — so these mantras are prayers for steadiness and the right understanding of hardship, not only for its removal.
The Puranic verse "Nilanjana Samabhasam", from the Navagraha Stotra attributed to Vyasa, is the most widely chanted: it remembers Shani's dark radiance and his family — son of the Sun, brother of Yama. The beej mantra uses the seed syllables prām, prīm, praum and saḥ. In the Navagraha puja each planet also has a Vedic mantra; for Shani it is the Rigvedic verse "Sham no devir abhishtaye", chosen for its opening word "śam", peace.
Tradition everywhere pairs Shani worship with Hanuman, who is said to have freed Shani from Ravana's captivity, and with service to the poor, the old and those who labour — the people Shani is said to protect.

Astrological remedies vary by tradition and by horoscope. For a formal anushthana, consult a family priest; for daily devotion the Puranic mantra and the name mantra are chanted freely.
Where Shani Mantra comes from
The Navagraha Stotra, attributed to Vyasa, gives one verse to each of the nine planets; "Nilanjana Samabhasam" is its verse for Shani. The beej and name mantras come from the Tantric and astrological (jyotisha) traditions, and the Vedic mantras of the planets are used in the Navagraha homa and puja described in the Grihya and Puranic texts.
Shani temples such as Shani Shingnapur in Maharashtra, the Thirunallar Saneeswaran temple near Karaikal and Shani Dham in Delhi draw large crowds every Saturday, and the mantras are chanted there with offerings of oil.
