Durge Durghat Bhari — Devi Aarti lyrics in Hindi & English, with meaning

  1. Verse 1#

    Durge durghaṭ bhārī tujaviṇ saṁsārī.
    Anāthanāthe Ambe karuṇā vistārī.
    Vārī vārī janmamaraṇāte vārī.
    Hārī paḍalo ātā saṅkaṭ nivārī.

O Durga, without you this worldly life is terribly hard. O Mother Amba, protector of the helpless, spread your compassion. Stop, stop the round of birth and death; I have fallen defeated — now remove my troubles.

  2. Chorus#

    Jay devī jay devī Mahiṣāsuramathinī.
    Suravar īśvar varade tārak sañjīvanī.

Victory, O Devi, victory to you, slayer of Mahishasura! Giver of boons to the gods and to Shiva, you carry us across and give us new life.

  3. Verse 2#

Tribhuvan bhuvanī pāhatā tuj aisī nāhī.
Cārī śramale parantu na bolave kāhī.
    Sāhī vivād karitā paḍale pravāhī.
    Te tū bhaktālāgī pāvasī lavalāhī.

Search all the three worlds — there is none like you. The four Vedas grew weary but could not describe you; the six schools of philosophy, arguing, were swept away. Yet you come at once to your devotee.

  4. Verse 3#

    Prasanna vadane prasanna hosī nijadāsā.
    Kleśāpāsuni soḍavī toḍī bhavapāśā.
    Ambe tujavācūn koṇ puravil āśā.
    Narahari tallīn jhālā padapaṅkajaleśā.

With a smiling face you are pleased with your own servant; free me from affliction and cut the noose of worldly life. O Amba, who but you will fulfil my hopes? Narahari is lost in devotion at the touch of your lotus feet.
