What Meenakshi Pancharatnam means
Meenakshi — "she whose eyes are like fish" — is Parvati as the queen of Madurai, married to Shiva as Sundareshvara. The five verses describe her radiant form, her place at the centre of the Shri Chakra as Shri Vidya, her role as mother of Ganesha and Kartikeya, and her love of music. Every verse ends with the same surrender: "I always bow to Meenakshi, the ocean of compassion."
Tamil tradition says that just as a fish nourishes its young by looking at them, Meenakshi protects her devotees by her glance.
