    sā ca tatkupitā devī dhanuściccheda ceṣubhiḥ ||

    With his bow cut, the daitya lord took up a spear; the Goddess cut that too with her discus while it was still in his hand.

  12. Shloka 12#

    As he rushed at her, Chandika at once cut his sword with sharp arrows from her bow, and his shield, bright as the sun's rays.

  14. Shloka 14#

    She struck down his horses and his chariot with the charioteer. With horses slain, bow broken and charioteer gone, the daitya seized a terrible club, bent on killing Ambika.

  15. Shloka 15#

    चिच्छेदापततस्तस्य मुद्गरं निशितैः शरैः ।

    tathāpi so'bhyadhāvattāṃ muṣṭimudyamya vegavān ||

    आते हुए उसके मुद्गर को देवी ने तीखे बाणों से काट डाला; फिर भी वह मुक्का तानकर बड़े वेग से उनकी ओर दौड़ा।

    As he came on she cut his club with sharp arrows; still he rushed at her, fist raised, with great speed.

  16. Shloka 16#

    devyāstaṃ cāpi sā devī talenorasyatāḍayat ||

    That bull among daityas brought his fist down on the Goddess's heart; and the Goddess struck him on the chest with the flat of her hand.

  17. Shloka 17#

    sa daityarājaḥ sahasā punareva tathotthitaḥ ||

    Struck by the blow of her palm, the daitya king fell to the ground, but at once rose up again.

  18. Shloka 18#

    utpatya ca pragṛhyoccairdevīṃ gaganamāsthitaḥ |
    tatrāpi sā nirādhārā yuyudhe tena caṇḍikā ||

    Leaping up, he seized the Goddess and rose high into the sky; there too, without support, Chandika fought with him.

  19. Shloka 19#

    नियुद्धं खे तदा दैत्यश्चण्डिका च परस्परम् ।
    चक्रतुः प्रथमं सिद्धमुनिविस्मयकारकम् ॥

    niyuddhaṃ khe tadā daityaścaṇḍikā ca parasparam |
    cakratuḥ prathamaṃ siddhamunivismayakārakam ||

    तब आकाश में दैत्य और चण्डिका ने आपस में ऐसा बाहुयुद्ध किया, जैसा पहले कभी नहीं हुआ था; उसे देखकर सिद्ध और मुनि चकित रह गए।

    Then the daitya and Chandika fought hand to hand in the sky, a combat such as never was before, astonishing the siddhas and sages.

  20. Shloka 20#

    ततो नियुद्धं सुचिरं कृत्वा तेनाम्बिका सह ।
    उत्पात्य भ्रामयामास चिक्षेप धरणीतले ॥

    utpātya bhrāmayāmāsa cikṣepa dharaṇītale ||

    बहुत देर तक उससे बाहुयुद्ध करने के बाद अम्बिका ने उसे उठाकर घुमाया और धरती पर पटक दिया।

    After fighting him hand to hand for a long time, Ambika lifted him up, whirled him round and hurled him to the ground.

  21. Shloka 21#

    स क्षिप्तो धरणीं प्राप्य मुष्टिमुद्यम्य वेगितः ।
    अभ्यधावत दुष्टात्मा चण्डिकानिधनेच्छया ॥

    sa kṣipto dharaṇīṃ prāpya muṣṭimudyamya vegitaḥ |
    abhyadhāvata duṣṭātmā caṇḍikānidhanecchayā ||

    धरती पर पटके जाते ही वह दुरात्मा चण्डिका को मारने की इच्छा से फिर मुक्का तानकर वेग से दौड़ा।

    Thrown down, as soon as he touched the earth the wicked one rushed at her again, fist raised, eager to kill Chandika.

  22. Shloka 22#

    tamāyāntaṃ tato devī sarvadaityajaneśvaram |
    jagatyāṃ pātayāmāsa bhittvā śūlena vakṣasi ||

    As that lord of all the daityas came on, the Goddess pierced his chest with her spear and threw him down on the earth.

  23. Shloka 23#

    sa gatāsuḥ papātorvyāṃ devīśūlāgravikṣataḥ |
    cālayan sakalāṃ pṛthvīṃ sābdhidvīpāṃ saparvatām ||

    Torn by the point of the Goddess's spear, he fell lifeless to the ground, shaking the whole earth with its oceans, islands and mountains.

  24. Shloka 24#

    ततः प्रसन्नमखिलं हते तस्मिन् दुरात्मनि ।
    जगत्स्वास्थ्यमतीवाप निर्मलं चाभवन्नभः ॥

    tataḥ prasannamakhilaṃ hate tasmin durātmani |
    jagatsvāsthyamatīvāpa nirmalaṃ cābhavannabhaḥ ||

    उस दुरात्मा के मारे जाने पर सारा संसार प्रसन्न और पूर्णतः स्वस्थ हो गया, और आकाश निर्मल हो गया।

    When that wicked one was slain, the whole world became calm and healthy again, and the sky became clear.

  25. Shloka 25#

    उत्पातमेघाः सोल्का ये प्रागासंस्ते शमं ययुः ।
    सरितो मार्गवाहिन्यस्तथासंस्तत्र पातिते ॥

    sarito mārgavāhinyastathāsaṃstatra pātite ||

    पहले जो उत्पात के बादल और उल्काएँ दिख रहे थे, वे शान्त हो गए, और उसके गिरने पर नदियाँ फिर अपने मार्ग से बहने लगीं।

    The portentous clouds and meteors that had appeared before were stilled, and when he had fallen the rivers flowed in their courses again.

  26. Shloka 26#

    babhūvurnihate tasmin gandharvā lalitaṃ jaguḥ ||

    उसके मारे जाने पर सब देवगणों के मन हर्ष से भर गए, और गन्धर्व मधुर गीत गाने लगे।

    When he was slain, all the hosts of gods were overjoyed, and the gandharvas sang sweetly.

    vavuḥ puṇyāstathā vātāḥ suprabho'bhūddivākaraḥ ||

    दूसरे बाजे बजाने लगे, अप्सराएँ नाचने लगीं, पवित्र वायु बहने लगी, और सूर्य सुन्दर प्रकाश से चमकने लगा।

    Others played music, the apsaras danced, holy winds blew, and the sun shone brightly.
