    इदं तु ते गुह्यतमं प्रवक्ष्याम्यनसूयवे ।
    ज्ञानं विज्ञानसहितं यज्ज्ञात्वा मोक्ष्यसेऽशुभात् ॥

    śrībhagavānuvāca |
    idaṃ tu te guhyatamaṃ pravakṣyāmyanasūyave |
    jñānaṃ vijñānasahitaṃ yajjñātvā mokṣyase'śubhāt ||

    श्रीभगवान बोले: तुम दोष देखने वाले नहीं हो, इसलिए मैं तुम्हें यह सबसे गुप्त ज्ञान अनुभव सहित बताऊँगा। इसे जानकर तुम सब अशुभ से मुक्त हो जाओगे।

    The Blessed Lord said: Because you do not find fault, I will now explain to you this deepest secret, knowledge joined with direct realisation. Knowing it, you will be freed from all that is inauspicious.

  2. Verse 9.2 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    राजविद्या राजगुह्यं पवित्रमिदमुत्तमम् ।
    प्रत्यक्षावगमं धर्म्यं सुसुखं कर्तुमव्ययम् ॥

    rājavidyā rājaguhyaṃ pavitramidamuttamam |
    pratyakṣāvagamaṃ dharmyaṃ susukhaṃ kartumavyayam ||

    यह सब विद्याओं का राजा और सब रहस्यों का राजा है, अत्यंत पवित्र और उत्तम है। इसका प्रत्यक्ष अनुभव होता है, यह धर्मयुक्त है, करने में बहुत सरल है और अविनाशी है।

    This is the king of sciences and the king of secrets, supremely purifying. It can be directly experienced, it is in harmony with dharma, it is easy to practise, and it never perishes.

  3. Verse 9.3 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    अश्रद्दधानाः पुरुषा धर्मस्यास्य परन्तप ।
    अप्राप्य मां निवर्तन्ते मृत्युसंसारवर्त्मनि ॥

    aśraddadhānāḥ puruṣā dharmasyāsya parantapa |
    aprāpya māṃ nivartante mṛtyusaṃsāravartmani ||

    हे परंतप (शत्रुओं को तपाने वाले)! जो लोग इस धर्म में श्रद्धा नहीं रखते, वे मुझे प्राप्त न होकर बार-बार मृत्यु और संसार के मार्ग में लौटते रहते हैं।

    Those who have no faith in this teaching, O Parantapa (scorcher of foes), do not reach me. They return again to the path of death and worldly rebirth.

  4. Verse 9.4 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    mayā tatamidaṃ sarvaṃ jagadavyaktamūrtinā |
    matsthāni sarvabhūtāni na cāhaṃ teṣvavasthitaḥ ||

    This entire universe is pervaded by me in my unmanifest form. All beings dwell in me, but I do not dwell in them.

  5. Verse 9.5 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    na ca matsthāni bhūtāni paśya me yogamaiśvaram |
    bhūtabhṛnna ca bhūtastho mamātmā bhūtabhāvanaḥ ||

    And yet beings do not truly abide in me. Behold my divine mystery! My Self sustains all beings and brings them into existence, yet it does not rest in them.

  6. Verse 9.6 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    यथाकाशस्थितो नित्यं वायुः सर्वत्रगो महान् ।
    तथा सर्वाणि भूतानि मत्स्थानीत्युपधारय ॥

    yathākāśasthito nityaṃ vāyuḥ sarvatrago mahān |
    tathā sarvāṇi bhūtāni matsthānītyupadhāraya ||

    जैसे सब जगह बहने वाली विशाल वायु सदा आकाश में ही रहती है, वैसे ही समझो कि सब प्राणी मुझमें ही स्थित हैं।

    Just as the mighty wind, moving everywhere, always remains within space, understand that in the same way all beings remain in me.

  7. Verse 9.7 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    सर्वभूतानि कौन्तेय प्रकृतिं यान्ति मामिकाम् ।
    कल्पक्षये पुनस्तानि कल्पादौ विसृजाम्यहम् ॥

    sarvabhūtāni kaunteya prakṛtiṃ yānti māmikām |
    kalpakṣaye punastāni kalpādau visṛjāmyaham ||

    हे कौन्तेय (कुंती पुत्र)! कल्प के अंत में सब प्राणी मेरी प्रकृति में लीन हो जाते हैं और कल्प के आरंभ में मैं उन्हें फिर से रचता हूँ।

    O Kaunteya (son of Kunti), at the end of a cosmic age all beings merge back into my nature, and at the start of the next age I send them forth again.

  8. Verse 9.8 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    प्रकृतिं स्वामवष्टभ्य विसृजामि पुनः पुनः ।
    भूतग्राममिमं कृत्स्नमवशं प्रकृतेर्वशात् ॥

    prakṛtiṃ svāmavaṣṭabhya visṛjāmi punaḥ punaḥ |
    bhūtagrāmamimaṃ kṛtsnamavaśaṃ prakṛtervaśāt ||

    अपनी प्रकृति का सहारा लेकर मैं प्रकृति के वश में पड़े इस सारे प्राणी समुदाय को बार-बार उत्पन्न करता हूँ।

    Taking hold of my own nature, I bring forth again and again this whole multitude of beings, who are helpless under the sway of nature.

  9. Verse 9.9 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    न च मां तानि कर्माणि निबध्नन्ति धनञ्जय ।
    उदासीनवदासीनमसक्तं तेषु कर्मसु ॥

    na ca māṃ tāni karmāṇi nibadhnanti dhanañjaya |
    udāsīnavadāsīnamasaktaṃ teṣu karmasu ||

    हे धनंजय (धन को जीतने वाले)! ये कर्म मुझे नहीं बाँधते, क्योंकि मैं उन कर्मों में आसक्ति रहित और उदासीन के समान स्थित रहता हूँ।

    These actions do not bind me, O Dhananjaya (winner of wealth), for I remain as one indifferent, unattached to all these works.

  10. Verse 9.10 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    मयाध्यक्षेण प्रकृतिः सूयते सचराचरम् ।
    हेतुनानेन कौन्तेय जगद्विपरिवर्तते ॥

    mayādhyakṣeṇa prakṛtiḥ sūyate sacarācaram |
    hetunānena kaunteya jagadviparivartate ||

    हे कौन्तेय! मेरी अध्यक्षता में प्रकृति चर और अचर सहित सारे जगत को जन्म देती है। इसी कारण यह संसार चक्र घूमता रहता है।

    Under my supervision, nature gives birth to all things, moving and unmoving. Because of this, O Kaunteya, the world keeps revolving.

  11. Verse 9.11 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    अवजानन्ति मां मूढा मानुषीं तनुमाश्रितम् ।
    परं भावमजानन्तो मम भूतमहेश्वरम् ॥

    avajānanti māṃ mūḍhā mānuṣīṃ tanumāśritam |
    paraṃ bhāvamajānanto mama bhūtamaheśvaram ||

    जब मैं मनुष्य शरीर धारण करता हूँ, तब मूर्ख लोग मेरा अनादर करते हैं, क्योंकि वे सब प्राणियों के महान ईश्वर रूप मेरे परम भाव को नहीं जानते।

    Fools disregard me when I take on a human body, not knowing my higher nature as the great Lord of all beings.

  12. Verse 9.12 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    moghāśā moghakarmāṇo moghajñānā vicetasaḥ |
    rākṣasīmāsurīṃ caiva prakṛtiṃ mohinīṃ śritāḥ ||

    Their hopes, actions and knowledge are all in vain; their minds are confused. They cling to a deluding nature that is demonic and fiendish.

  13. Verse 9.13 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    महात्मानस्तु मां पार्थ दैवीं प्रकृतिमाश्रिताः ।
    भजन्त्यनन्यमनसो ज्ञात्वा भूतादिमव्ययम् ॥

    mahātmānastu māṃ pārtha daivīṃ prakṛtimāśritāḥ |
    bhajantyananyamanaso jñātvā bhūtādimavyayam ||

    परंतु हे पार्थ (पृथा पुत्र)! दैवी स्वभाव का आश्रय लेने वाले महात्मा मुझे सब प्राणियों का आदि और अविनाशी जानकर अनन्य मन से भजते हैं।

    But great souls, O Partha (son of Pritha), who take shelter in divine nature, worship me with undivided minds, knowing me as the imperishable source of all beings.

  14. Verse 9.14 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    satataṃ kīrtayanto māṃ yatantaśca dṛḍhavratāḥ |
    namasyantaśca māṃ bhaktyā nityayuktā upāsate ||

    Always singing my glories, striving with firm resolve, bowing to me with devotion, they worship me, ever united with me.

  15. Verse 9.15 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    ज्ञानयज्ञेन चाप्यन्ये यजन्तो मामुपासते ।
    एकत्वेन पृथक्त्वेन बहुधा विश्वतोमुखम् ॥

    jñānayajñena cāpyanye yajanto māmupāsate |
    ekatvena pṛthaktvena bahudhā viśvatomukham ||

    कुछ अन्य लोग ज्ञान रूपी यज्ञ से मेरी उपासना करते हैं; कोई मुझे एक मानकर, कोई अलग मानकर और कोई सब ओर मुख वाले के रूप में अनेक प्रकार से।

    Others worship me through the offering of knowledge: some as the One, some as distinct from themselves, and others in many ways, as the One whose faces are everywhere.

  16. Verse 9.16 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    अहं क्रतुरहं यज्ञः स्वधाहमहमौषधम् ।
    मन्त्रोऽहमहमेवाज्यमहमग्निरहं हुतम् ॥

    ahaṃ kraturahaṃ yajñaḥ svadhāhamahamauṣadham |
    mantro'hamahamevājyamahamagnirahaṃ hutam ||

    मैं ही क्रतु हूँ, मैं ही यज्ञ हूँ, पितरों को दिया जाने वाला स्वधा मैं हूँ, औषधि मैं हूँ। मंत्र मैं हूँ, घी मैं हूँ, अग्नि मैं हूँ और आहुति भी मैं ही हूँ।

    I am the ritual, I am the sacrifice, I am the offering to the ancestors, I am the healing herb. I am the sacred chant, I am the ghee, I am the fire, and I am the act of offering.

  17. Verse 9.17 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    pitāhamasya jagato mātā dhātā pitāmahaḥ |
    vedyaṃ pavitramoṃkāra ṛksāma yajureva ca ||

    I am the father of this world, its mother, its sustainer and its grandsire. I am what is to be known, the purifier, the sacred syllable Om, and the Rig, Sama and Yajur Vedas.

  18. Verse 9.18 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    gatirbhartā prabhuḥ sākṣī nivāsaḥ śaraṇaṃ suhṛt |
    prabhavaḥ pralayaḥ sthānaṃ nidhānaṃ bījamavyayam ||

    I am the goal, the supporter, the master, the witness, the dwelling, the refuge and the friend. I am the origin and the dissolution, the ground, the treasure-house and the imperishable seed.

  19. Verse 9.19 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    तपाम्यहमहं वर्षं निगृह्णाम्युत्सृजामि च ।
    अमृतं चैव मृत्युश्च सदसच्चाहमर्जुन ॥

    tapāmyahamahaṃ varṣaṃ nigṛhṇāmyutsṛjāmi ca |
    amṛtaṃ caiva mṛtyuśca sadasaccāhamarjuna ||

    हे अर्जुन! मैं ही तपता हूँ, मैं ही वर्षा को रोकता और बरसाता हूँ। अमृत और मृत्यु भी मैं हूँ, तथा सत् और असत् भी मैं ही हूँ।

    I give heat; I hold back the rain and send it forth. I am immortality and also death, O Arjuna; I am both what is and what is not.

  20. Verse 9.20 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    मश्नन्ति दिव्यान्दिवि देवभोगान् ॥

    traividyā māṃ somapāḥ pūtapāpā
    yajñairiṣṭvā svargatiṃ prārthayante |
    te puṇyamāsādya surendraloka-
    maśnanti divyāndivi devabhogān ||

    तीनों वेदों के ज्ञाता, सोमरस पीने वाले और पापों से शुद्ध हुए लोग यज्ञों से मेरी पूजा करके स्वर्ग की कामना करते हैं। वे पुण्य से इंद्रलोक पाकर वहाँ देवताओं के दिव्य भोग भोगते हैं।

    Those versed in the three Vedas, who drink the soma and are cleansed of sin, worship me through sacrifices and pray for heaven. Reaching the holy world of Indra, they enjoy divine pleasures among the gods.

  21. Verse 9.21 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    गतागतं कामकामा लभन्ते ॥

    te taṃ bhuktvā svargalokaṃ viśālaṃ
    kṣīṇe puṇye martyalokaṃ viśanti |
    evaṃ trayīdharmamanuprapannā
    gatāgataṃ kāmakāmā labhante ||

    वे उस विशाल स्वर्गलोक को भोगकर पुण्य समाप्त होने पर फिर मनुष्य लोक में आ जाते हैं। इस प्रकार वेदों के कर्मकांड का पालन करने वाले, भोगों की कामना वाले लोग बार-बार आते-जाते रहते हैं।

    Having enjoyed that vast heavenly world, they return to the world of mortals once their merit is used up. Thus, following the Vedic rites while driven by desire, they keep coming and going.

  22. Verse 9.22 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    अनन्याश्चिन्तयन्तो मां ये जनाः पर्युपासते ।
    तेषां नित्याभियुक्तानां योगक्षेमं वहाम्यहम् ॥

    ananyāścintayanto māṃ ye janāḥ paryupāsate |
    teṣāṃ nityābhiyuktānāṃ yogakṣemaṃ vahāmyaham ||

    जो लोग अनन्य भाव से मेरा चिंतन करते हुए मेरी उपासना करते हैं, उन सदा मुझसे जुड़े भक्तों के योग (जो नहीं है उसकी प्राप्ति) और क्षेम (जो है उसकी रक्षा) का भार मैं स्वयं उठाता हूँ।

    Those who think of me alone and worship me with no other aim, always steadfast, I myself provide what they lack and protect what they have.

  23. Verse 9.23 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    येऽप्यन्यदेवता भक्ता यजन्ते श्रद्धयान्विताः ।
    तेऽपि मामेव कौन्तेय यजन्त्यविधिपूर्वकम् ॥

    ye'pyanyadevatā bhaktā yajante śraddhayānvitāḥ |
    te'pi māmeva kaunteya yajantyavidhipūrvakam ||

    हे कौन्तेय! जो भक्त श्रद्धा के साथ दूसरे देवताओं की पूजा करते हैं, वे भी वास्तव में मेरी ही पूजा करते हैं, परंतु उचित विधि से नहीं।

    Even those devoted to other gods who worship them with faith are in fact worshipping me alone, O Kaunteya, though not in the proper way.

  24. Verse 9.24 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    ahaṃ hi sarvayajñānāṃ bhoktā ca prabhureva ca |
    na tu māmabhijānanti tattvenātaścyavanti te ||

    For I am the enjoyer and the lord of all sacrifices. But they do not know me as I truly am, and so they fall back.

  25. Verse 9.25 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    yānti devavratā devānpitṝnyānti pitṛvratāḥ |
    bhūtāni yānti bhūtejyā yānti madyājino'pi mām ||

    Worshippers of the gods go to the gods; worshippers of the ancestors go to the ancestors; worshippers of spirits go to the spirits; and those who worship me come to me.

  26. Verse 9.26 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    पत्रं पुष्पं फलं तोयं यो मे भक्त्या प्रयच्छति ।
    तदहं भक्त्युपहृतमश्नामि प्रयतात्मनः ॥

    patraṃ puṣpaṃ phalaṃ toyaṃ yo me bhaktyā prayacchati |
    tadahaṃ bhaktyupahṛtamaśnāmi prayatātmanaḥ ||

    जो कोई प्रेम से मुझे पत्ता, फूल, फल या जल अर्पित करता है, उस शुद्ध मन वाले भक्त का प्रेम से दिया हुआ वह उपहार मैं प्रसन्नता से ग्रहण करता हूँ।

    Whoever offers me with love a leaf, a flower, a fruit or some water, that loving gift from a pure-hearted person I gladly accept.

  27. Verse 9.27 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    यत्करोषि यदश्नासि यज्जुहोषि ददासि यत् ।
    यत्तपस्यसि कौन्तेय तत्कुरुष्व मदर्पणम् ॥

    yatkaroṣi yadaśnāsi yajjuhoṣi dadāsi yat |
    yattapasyasi kaunteya tatkuruṣva madarpaṇam ||

    हे कौन्तेय! तुम जो कुछ करते हो, जो खाते हो, जो हवन करते हो, जो दान देते हो और जो तप करते हो, वह सब मुझे अर्पित कर दो।

    Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer in sacrifice, whatever you give, whatever austerity you undertake, O Kaunteya, do it as an offering to me.

  28. Verse 9.28 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    शुभाशुभफलैरेवं मोक्ष्यसे कर्मबन्धनैः ।
    संन्यासयोगयुक्तात्मा विमुक्तो मामुपैष्यसि ॥

    śubhāśubhaphalairevaṃ mokṣyase karmabandhanaiḥ |
    saṃnyāsayogayuktātmā vimukto māmupaiṣyasi ||

    इस प्रकार तुम शुभ और अशुभ फल देने वाले कर्म बंधनों से मुक्त हो जाओगे। संन्यास योग से युक्त मन वाले होकर तुम मुक्त होकर मुझे प्राप्त करोगे।

    In this way you will be freed from the bonds of action that bring good and bad results. With your mind set on renunciation and yoga, you will be liberated and come to me.

  29. Verse 9.29 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    I am the same towards all beings; no one is hateful to me and no one is my favourite. But those who worship me with devotion are in me, and I am in them.

  30. Verse 9.30 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    api cetsudurācāro bhajate māmananyabhāk |
    sādhureva sa mantavyaḥ samyagvyavasito hi saḥ ||

    Even if a person of very wicked conduct worships me with undivided devotion, he should be regarded as good, for he has made the right resolve.

  31. Verse 9.31 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    kṣipraṃ bhavati dharmātmā śaśvacchāntiṃ nigacchati |
    kaunteya pratijānīhi na me bhaktaḥ praṇaśyati ||

    He quickly becomes a righteous soul and attains lasting peace. O Kaunteya, declare it boldly and with certainty: my devotee never perishes.

  32. Verse 9.32 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    māṃ hi pārtha vyapāśritya ye'pi syuḥ pāpayonayaḥ |
    striyo vaiśyāstathā śūdrāste'pi yānti parāṃ gatim ||

    O Partha, those who take refuge in me, even if of lowly birth, and likewise women, vaishyas and shudras, also reach the supreme goal.

  33. Verse 9.33 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    kiṃ punarbrāhmaṇāḥ puṇyā bhaktā rājarṣayastathā |
    anityamasukhaṃ lokamimaṃ prāpya bhajasva mām ||

    How much more so, then, holy brahmins and devoted royal sages! Having come into this passing and joyless world, worship me.

  34. Verse 9.34 · Sri KrishnaOpen →

    मन्मना भव मद्भक्तो मद्याजी मां नमस्कुरु ।
    मामेवैष्यसि युक्त्वैवमात्मानं मत्परायणः ॥

    manmanā bhava madbhakto madyājī māṃ namaskuru |
    māmevaiṣyasi yuktvaivamātmānaṃ matparāyaṇaḥ ||

    मुझमें मन लगाओ, मेरे भक्त बनो, मेरी पूजा करो और मुझे नमस्कार करो। इस प्रकार अपने आप को मुझमें लगाकर, मुझे ही परम लक्ष्य मानकर, तुम मुझे ही प्राप्त होगे।

    Fix your mind on me, be devoted to me, worship me and bow down to me. Disciplining yourself in this way, with me as your supreme goal, you will surely come to me.

About Chapter 9 — Raja Vidya Raja Guhya Yoga

Krishna now reveals what he calls the king of all knowledge and the king of all secrets. He explains that the whole universe is pervaded by his unmanifest form; all beings rest in him, yet he is not bound by them. At the end of each cosmic cycle creatures return to his nature, and he sends them forth again. The deluded overlook him in his human form, while great souls worship him with steady devotion. He is the ritual, the offering, the father, mother and goal of the world. Even a leaf, flower, fruit or water offered with love is accepted by him. Whoever takes refuge in him, whatever their birth or past, reaches the highest goal.
